Version 0.30 released!

A major new version of Look Outside is released!

This comes with a lot of new content and visual updates, though the game still has no endings.

The full release of Look Outside should be sometime in January.

I am still working on a lot more polish and content this week, and then will be focusing on balance and difficulty tweaks over the holidays.

Warning: importing your saves from previous builds into 0.30 could break some of the new content, since many things were updated to work differently now. It is recommended you start over.

New Content:

  • (0.29b) Removed the crossword book from the apartment – now you need to find it first. (its easy to find)
  • (0.29b) Removed the crafting kit from the apartment – now you need to find it first. (its easy to find)
  • Several new music tracks from Eric Shumaker
  • All music was remixed
  • New text font and menu graphics
  • New environment art by unsilentwill (work in progress)
  • Several new door visit encounters, though many more are upcoming.
  • Several new events that happen at home.
  • Weapons breaking completely now gives you Junk.
  • Added Duct Tape. Use it to repair damaged weapons.
  • Improved the interaction system with people in your apartment.
  • Encounters at the door now use a more advanced scheduling system, should not repeat encounters with characters you recruited or killed anymore. Merchants are now more common and recruitable visitors less common.
  • Added an Easy and Normal game mode. Hard mode will be added later, after the full 1.0 release. Details on the game modes are further below.
  • Added in many of the missing puzzle discs to solve some of the puzzles.

Fixes/Tweaks:

  • (0.29b) Designed some battles that were more like placeholder fights before:
    • Tumorhead
    • Typewrither
    • Panopticon
  • Fixed several battles that were broken in 0.29b:
    • Typewrither
    • Spore Queen
  • Fixed issue with weapons breaking after using some items or skills that are unrelated to weapons.
  • Fixed Jasper encounter

    Difficulty Modes-

The game now has some difficulty options selected at the beginning.

    • Easy mode is mostly unchanged from what the game was like before- you can save anywhere and there are autosaves between rooms. Weapon durability is forgiving, there are plenty of healing items and food to find, and recovering your life back home is relatively easy. For the full release, it will be intended for people who are not experienced with turn based RPG combat and survival horror games, to ease them into the experience a little, but still give them an exciting exploration game.
    • Normal mode represents my attempts at re-balancing the game to be more in line with a proper survival horror experience. Fewer healing items, weapons are more fragile, and you can only save when you are back home. The difficulty of Normal mode will increase over time as I work more on game balance and adjust resources and battles more carefully. For the full release, it will be intended for players who have experience with turn based RPGs and survival horror games.
    • Hard mode will be released after the full 1.0 release, and will be intended for people who have already beaten the game before and want an extra challenge on replay. It will be much more brutal for resource management and will feature re-balanced battles, more expensive trading, and possibly extra monsters to fight. It will only allow saving when the player sleeps at the start of a day.
